And Peter and the Wolf are coming too!!!

Mark the diary for Friday 19 May – this is the night that Queensland Symphony Orchestra (QSO) returns to Gladstone to perform the stunning, Symphony Under the Stars, with more than 3,000 people expected to attend.

The 11th Symphony Under the Stars concert, one of QSO’s most anticipated and loved regional visits, is supported by Australia Pacific LNG operated by ConocoPhillips, Gladstone Regional Council, Gladstone Entertainment Convention Centre, and Gladstone Ports Corporation.

Music by some of the world’s most famed composers will feature including Strauss, Puccini, Elgar and Verdi among others, with the Orchestra performing pieces from Madama Butterfly, Carmen, Tosca, Romeo and Juliet, La bohème and Aïda under the baton of QSO’s Principal Guest Conductor, Johannes Fritzsch and hosted by the much-loved Guy Noble. Joining the Orchestra will be Soprano, Rebecca Cassidy and Tenor, Rosario La Spina to create a night that will go down in Gladstone’s musical history.

“Symphony Under the Stars will be a wonderful non-stop adventure through music that has thrilled audiences for decades including excerpts from some of the most famous pieces ever written, all in one concert,” said QSO Chief Executive Officer Yarmila Alfonzetti.

The concert will also feature selected Gladstone high school students performing side-by-side with QSO musicians in the finale of this unmissable concert. QSO will be joined by Gladstone State High School student Alysia-Rose Booth, Chanel College student Caleb Dawe, and Simone Henry, Logan Nutley, Dwight Ramsay, Hannah Rankin and Isaac Rankin from Tannum Sands State High School. The students will receive workshop opportunities with QSO musicians in the lead-up to performing the Grand March from Aïda for their community.

THERE’S MORE! In a coup for Gladstone regional primary students, QSO will perform a special education concert featuring the perennial children’s favourite Peter and the Wolf at 11.30am on Friday 19 May at Gladstone Entertainment Convention Centre, led by Maestro Fritzsch and narrated by Vivienne Collier-Vickers. This adored story of adventure and enchantment has been performed thousands of times around the world and still lives on in the hearts of children young and old, capturing imaginations as the courageous Peter and his animal friends outwit a wily wolf.
